چکیده
We describe here a new concept of a Cherenkov detector for particle identification by means of measuring the Time-of-Propagation (TOP) of Cherenkov photons.

The Dirc Counter: a New Type of Particle Identification Device for B Factories*
A very thin, solid radiator, totally internally reflecting, imaging Cherenkov counter (DIRC) is described. This device is well matched to the hadronic charged particle identification requirements at an asymmetric e+eB Factory.
متن کاملLOI to JLab PAC 31 RF Cherenkov picosecond timing technique for Jlab 12 GeV physics program
A new particle identification device for Jlab 12 GeV physics program is proposed. It is based on the measurement of time information by means of a new radio frequency picosecond phototube (RFPP) and time measuring concept. The expected time measurement precision for Cherenkov time-of-flight (TOF) detector in a “head-on” geometry based on RFPP is about or less than 5 picoseconds, FWHM. The propo...
متن کاملThe aerogel threshold Cherenkov detector for the High Momentum Spectrometer in Hall C at Jefferson Lab
We describe a new aerogel threshold Cherenkov detector installed in the HMS spectrometer in Hall C at Jefferson Lab. The Hall C experimental program in 2003 required an improved particle identification system for better identification of π/K/p, which was achieved by installing an additional threshold Cherenkov counter. Two types of aerogel with n = 1.03 and n = 1.015 allow one to reach ∼ 10 pro...
متن کاملDetectors for particle identification
The paper reviews recent progress in particle identification methods. A survey of motivations and requirements for particle identification in various experimental environments is followed by the main emphasis, which is on the recent development of Cherenkov counters, from upgrades of existing devices to a novel focusing radiator concept and new photon detectors. The impact of including a precis...
متن کاملChapter 1 BigBite Gas Cherenkov
This document describes the Cherenkov detector that is to be constructed for the Hall A neutron d2 experiment (E06-014). The inclusive nature of that experiment makes the addition of the Cerenkov counter for pion and proton rejection critical for the low energy bins. Monte Carlo and analysis of G E suggest particle rates of (assuming a 500MeV ee threshold on the the BigBite shower detector): • ...
